Q: After my door opens the light flashes on and off for a minute, how do I correct this?
A: The most likely cause is the open travel limit is set too far open and the carriage is striking the stop bolt. Turn the “OPEN” travel adjustment screw at the bottom of the operator clockwise to decrease amount of open door travel. ¼ turn will equal 1” less door travel.
Q: Can I install my operator on a one piece door?
A: No, the operator is not designed for a one piece door and the safety features will not work properly if installed on a one piece door
Q: Can I mount the photo eyes high above the door to get them out of site?
A: No, photoeyes are safety sensors and need to be mounted no more than 5" above the floor to the center line of the safety sensor bracket.
Q: Can I operate my opener without the photo eyes?
A: No, photo eye safety sensors are required on all Quantum, Classic Drive and prodrive operators are required
Q: Can I run my operator from an extension cord?
A: No, this is a potential safety issue and a code violation.
Q: Do I need an X-10 Bridge?
A: You only need an X-10 Bridge if you have an existing home automation system that utilizes this technology. The X-10 Bridge converts X-10 signals to Z-Wave technology so you can still use what you have and simply add to it with the Wayne-Dalton Home Control system.
Q: Does Wayne-Dalton produce Fiberglass Garage Doors?
A: Yes. The revolutionary Model 9800 fiberglass-clad door combines the realism of wood with the insulation benefits of its steel inner shell.
Q: How do I determine what radio frequency my operator is?
A: Quantum and Classic Drives with black or green antennas are 303 Mhz, orange or red antenna wires are 433 Mhz, dual antenna boards, white antenna wire and yellow antenna wire are both 303 Mhz and 372.5 Mhz, white antenna wire is 303 Mhz and yellow antenna wires are 372.5 Mhz except Z-wave prodrives which are 372.0 Mhz.
Q: How do I teach a remote to my operator?
A: Press and release the program switch at the left rear side of the operator, the program status indicator will come on solid. Within 60 seconds press and release the desired button on the remote. For operators with yellow antenna wires the convenience light will flash on and off three times indicating a successful learn, for all others operators the program status indicator will extinguish indicating a successful learn. Note: For transmitters with a green L.E.D. the transmitter will require activation if new and if used will require reactivation to enable teach commands to be sent. See “What is the 10-5 procedure”
Q: How do I teach my wireless wall station to my operator?
A: Press and release the program switch at the left rear side of the operator, the program status indicator will come on solid. Within 60 seconds press and release the light switch on the wall station. For operators with yellow antenna wires the convenience light will flash on and off three times indicating a successful learn, for all others operators the program status indicator will extinguish indicating a successful learn. Note: For wireless wall stations with a green L.E.D. the wall station will require activation if new and if used will require reactivation to enable teach commands to be sent. See “What is the 10-5 procedure
Q: How far away from my door should I be able to operate my door using a remote?
A: Your remote should open your door from 50 to 75 feet away. Note: Weather conditions, radio frequency interference from outside sources, and electromagnetic interference such as radiated by a DC motor can adversely affect the distance from which you can operate your operator.
Q: How many keyless entry's can I program into my operator?
A: Operators with yellow antenna wires can hold two keyless entry pads. All other operators can hold one keyless entry pad.
Q: How many transmitters can I program into my opener?
A: Operators with yellow antenna wires can hold up to 8 transmitters (remotes). All other operators can hold four remotes.
Q: How many Wall Stations can I program into my operator
A: Operators with yellow antenna wires can hold two wireless wall stations. All other operators can hold one wireless wall station.
Q: Is my operator CAR2U compatible?
A: All Wayne-Dalton garage door operators operating at 372.5 or 372.0 Mhz are CAR2U compatible. Wayne Dalton Garage Door Operators operating at 303 Mhz are not CAR2U compatible
Q: Is my operator HomeLink compatible?
A: All prodrives are HomeLink compatible. Quantum and Classic Drive operators with green antennas are compatible with earlier versions of HomeLink, those with white or yellow antenna wires are compatible with all versions of HomeLink. Quantum and Classic Drive operators with black antenna wires are not HomeLink compatible.
Q: Is my operator Z-wave (Home Access) compatible?
A: Those operators designated with a suffix of “Z” in the model number are Z-wave/HomeAccess compatible
Q: My door does not open all the way and the light does not flash after it stops, what is the problem?
A: The issue is more than likely insufficient opening travel. To increase open travel turn the open limit travel screw at the bottom of the operator counter clockwise. ¼ turn equals approximately 1 inch of door travel.
Q: My door does not open all the way and the light flashes after it stops, what is the problem?
A: The problem is most likely insufficient opening force. For operators with a yellow antenna wire press and release the program switch three times. The operator program status indicator located on the left side of the operator will give a series of flashes, pause and repeat the flash sequence. One flash is the lowest setting, 5 flashes is the highest opening force setting. Press and release the learned button on the remote once, the operator will revert to the lowest setting and the program status indicator will flash once, pause and repeat itself. Press and release the learned button of the remote a second time and the opening force increases one more step. The factory default setting is mid point, three flashes of the program status indicator and is generally sufficient for any door. One you have completed increasing the opening force press and release the program switch once, this will lock in the new setting. For operators other than those with a yellow antenna wire
Q: My door stops short of the floor, what is the problem?
A: The issue is most likely caused by insufficient close travel. Turn the close travel adjustment screw located on the underside of the operator clockwise to increase the amount of close travel. ¼ turn equals 1 inch of door travel.
Q: My door travels all the way to the floor then reverses and returns to full open, what is the problem?
A: Verify that no object is under the door, such as a screw driver or stone. If the door way is clear decrease close travel by turning the close travel adjustment screw located on the underside of the operator counterclockwise. ¼ turn equals 1 inch of door travel. If necessary, increase down force by rotating the small white knob located on the right side of the operator clockwise approximately 30 degrees at a time.
Q: My door travels closed but stops and reverses to full open before it reaches the floor, what is the problem?
A: Most likely cause is insufficient down force. increase down force by rotating the small white knob located on the right side of the operator clockwise approximately 30 degrees at a time
Q: My door will not close, from open it travels a short distance downward and then reverse to full open, what is the problem?
A: Problem is most likely photo safety sensor related. Use constant pressure on the push button or up/down button on a wireless wall station; if the door closes all the way with constant pressure on the switch it is a safety sensor issue. Verify alignment of sensors, clean apertures with a slightly damp cloth or paper towel, verify connections at motor head and ensure no staple has broken or pierced a wire. If none of these correct the issue, replace the safety sensors.
Q: What is the "10-5" procedure?
A: New or not previously used transmitters and wall stations with a green L.E.D. require activation prior to programming these to the operator. Additionally, if a transmitter button has been pressed and released 5 times it will no longer transmit "teach" commands and must be "10/5'd"
